A Progressive Political Platform

Cali Miller August 18, 2026 5 minutes read

To be successful in the upcoming 2026 and 2028 elections, Democrats need to offer voters a bold, clear, and concise platform. Below, I’ve written an outline of what is important to me as a Progressive. This is my vision for America, and I urge Democrats across the spectrum to fight for and support these ideas and policies.

Affordability:

  • Restore funding for SNAP (food stamps).
  • Grants for first time home buyers.
  • Subsidized rent payments for low-income households.
  • End across-the-board tariffs.

Immigration:

  • Abolish ICE.
  • Reallocate ICE budget to fund the processing of immigration and refugees.
  • Amnesty and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants with no major criminal record (violence or high value money/property crimes).
  • Reform the immigration system to make it easier for immigrants to come in legally.

Foreign Policy:

  • Strengthen our bond with NATO and allies.
  • Support for Ukraine.
  • Stop funding the genocide in Gaza. Send aid to rebuild Gaza and make people healthy.
  • Strategically pull out of Iran, and restore oil trade.
  • Restore USAID, PEPFAR, and other soft power programs shuttered by DOGE.
  • Send aid to war-torn and developing countries.
  • Focus on defense, not imperialism.
  • Free trade with limited tariffs.

Healthcare:

  • Single-payer Medicare for all, including parts A, B, and D, with dental and vision.
  • Improve Medicare to include more services including mental health and preventative care.
  • Funding for in-home care for seniors and those with disabilities with no waiting lists.
  • Full gender affirmative healthcare.
  • Restore CDC funding for monitoring, prevention, and mitigating communicable diseases.
  • Restore funding for medical research.
  • Codify Roe vs Wade in constitution.

Gun Violence:

  • Better background checks.
  • Close boyfriend loophole.
  • Red flag laws.
  • Require gun safety courses to get licensed.
  • Require license for rifles and handguns.

Drug Policy:

  • Legalize marijuana for recreational use above 21 and medical use for any age.
  • Decriminalize other drugs.
  • Focus on harm reduction like needle exchange, safe use sites, purity testing.
  • Treat addiction like a health problem instead of a crime.
  • Pardons and expungement for those serving sentences for low level drug crimes.

Election Reform:

  • Reinstate The Fairness Doctrine in media.
  • Remove corporate money, dark money, and super PACs from elections.
  • Make Election Day a national holiday.
  • Automatic, irrevocable, lifetime voter registration upon eligibility.
  • Ranked choice voting when and where applicable.
  • Vote at any polling location in your county.
  • Mandatory one month of early voting before Election Day.
  • More polling locations in large cities, so people aren’t waiting in line for hours.
  • Anyone can request a mail-in ballot for any reason.
  • No restrictions on passing out water for people in line.
  • Mandatory paper ballots, so audits can be performed.
  • Free rides to and from polling locations.
  • Free identification documents.
  • Abolish the Electoral College in favor of the popular vote.

Environment:

  • Phase out fossil fuel vehicles and power grid.
  • Solar, wind, water to generate electricity.
  • Hazardous material abatement for homes, communities, and waterways.
  • Pass the Green New Deal.

Infrastructure:

  • Define broadband internet as a public utility. Make it available in rural areas.
  • Fix crumbling infrastructure.
  • High speed rail connecting the country.
  • Invest in new technologies.
  • Grants to help middle class own the means of production.

Wealth:

  • Raise minimum wage to a living wage.
  • Tax the rich, close the loopholes.
  • 4 day work week.
  • Overtime paid for working more than 8 hours per day.
  • Overtime paid for working more that 32 hours a week.
  • PTO, vacation, maternity leave for both parents.
  • Support unions.

Equity:

  • Investment in poor and underserved communities, especially communities of color.
  • Investment in small farms.

Education:

  • Fix and modernize school infrastructure.
  • Free K-12 and college for all.
  • School choice with alternate learning opportunities and teaching methods.
  • Cancel student debt.

Affordable Housing:

  • Ban corporations from buying and owning large percentage of a county’s homes. Keep homes in the hands of individuals, families, and small businesses.

AI:

  • Require a mandatory ballot initiative for communities to approve data centers.
  • Study and regulate AI.
  • Prevent AI from taking human jobs. Create safety nets and education programs to transition affected workers to new careers.
  • Prevent AI use in military and policing.

  • Reform data brokers. Require opt in. Require easy options to remove data.
  • Right to be forgotten.
  • Ban law enforcement and corporate facial and license plate recognition technology.
  • Better consumer and civil protections against data leaks, doxing, and defamation.
  • Hold social networks accountable for failing to moderate doxing and defamation.
  • Easier recourse for data leaks, doxing, and defamation, modeled after the EU GDPR.

Government by the People:

  • Constitutional amendment to require all state and local governments to allow and honor ballot initiatives.

Reform the Supreme Court:

  • Staggered Term Limits
  • One SCOTUS justice for each of the 13 appellate courts

  • Overturn transgender bathroom bans.
  • Overturn bans on hormone therapy for transgender youth.

Justice for Corruption and Inhumane

  • Investigation into the Trump regime’s alleged crimes.
  • Investigation into ICE and Concentration Camps.
  • Prosecute those found guilty.

Rebalance the Coequal Branches of Government:

  • Constitutional amendment to remove a president’s absolute immunity.
  • More avenues to remove a rogue president from power.
  • Yearly nationwide vote of confidence. Citizens vote on whether to retain or remove a President. If removed, VP takes over, unless it’s a presidential election year. If it’s an election year, winning presidential candidate is inaugurated as soon as votes are certified.
